Sync across devices
Opt into private iCloud sync and understand what follows you, what remains local, and how source folders work per device.
Audely can sync supported library information through the private CloudKit database attached to your signed-in iCloud account. Sync is optional and must be enabled explicitly.
Before enabling sync
- Sign in to iCloud on each device.
- Make sure iCloud Drive and CloudKit access are available.
- Link an appropriate source folder independently on every device.
- Keep enough iCloud storage available for artwork, transcripts, and backup data.
Turn on sync
- Open Settings in Audely.
- Choose Sync or Sync across your devices.
- Enable the sync option.
- Allow the initial transfer and review the status shown in Settings.
- Repeat on every Mac, iPhone, or iPad you want to include.
What syncs
Audely can sync library identities, show and episode metadata, artwork, transcripts, favourites, supported preferences, playback restore state, and deletion information needed to keep devices consistent.
What never syncs
- Source audio files
- Folder permissions and security-scoped access
- Absolute file paths
- Device-specific source locations
- Files that are merely visible but not downloaded from iCloud Drive
Conflicts and deletions
Audely uses stable library identities and timestamps to merge changes. Deletions sync as library intent. They remove Audely records where appropriate but do not delete source audio from Finder, Files, or iCloud Drive.
If iCloud becomes unavailable
The local library remains on the device. Check the sync status in Settings, confirm the signed-in iCloud account, and retry after connectivity or account access returns.
